BACKGROUND

The country of Baden where our vines are nurtured and grow is so named after our family. Our family has been committed to Baden for over 900 years. From early on, the Margraves promoted winegrowing — through the creation of wine standards and laws, innovative agricultural methods and the introduction of new grape varieties. Built in 1134, the castle in Salem was used as a monastery. The origin of the monks lay in Burgundy and they brought viticulture to Salem. In the Middle Ages there lived about 310 monks in Salem who managed over 2,500 acres of wine. In the course of secularization, the Margraves received the castle from Napoleon Bonaparte as a compensation for lost territories. In 1802, the Margraves came to Salem and they promoted the viticulture. Our link to wine history is a core part of our heritage and today is our motivation and inspiration to build for the future. It is reflected in our family motto: “Fidelitas” — Loyalty!

WINEMAKING & VINTAGE NOTES

The winery is 130 acres in size with alpine moraine soils built in the Ice age, and limestone. The vineyard terrior is one of the highest in Germany. Temperatures are balanced and moderate. The climate change favors the vegetation in our vineyards. Four months in stainless steel tanks.

TASTING NOTES

Notes of green apple and blackcurrant. Balanced freshness with a touch of minerality. Pairs well with fish, shellfish, chicken and other light fare.
